HOW TO INSTALL YOUR FLOATING SHELVES

HOW TO INSTALL YOUR FLOATING SHELVES - [Captions]

0:00:00.979,0:00:07.740
Okay here’s a short video explaining how to install your new shelves. So first

0:00:07.740,0:00:12.480
thing you’re gonna do when you open up your your package is take note of what

0:00:12.480,0:00:16.680
you have you should have your shelf or shelves and your hardware. So the first

0:00:16.680,0:00:21.300
thing you do is you take your shelf and you separate it in to two pieces.

0:00:21.300,0:00:26.730
The skinny portion is the mounting portion and that’s the part that you’ll

0:00:26.730,0:00:30.960
be working with first. Sometimes it’s a little bit tight but that’s normal it’s

0:00:30.960,0:00:34.770
a good thing. Just be patient. Wiggle it side to side and it will come

0:00:34.770,0:00:39.899
out. So then what you do is you take that skinny portion making sure that you know

0:00:39.899,0:00:43.739
which side is up on which side is down, which you can tell by there’s a

0:00:43.739,0:00:47.399
small mounting hole on the main portion of the shelves underneath with a

0:00:47.399,0:00:52.219
pre-drilled hole, so just make sure you know which side is up which side is down.

0:00:52.219,0:00:58.859
Set it against the wall with a level. Take your

0:00:58.859,0:01:04.110
drill with a 1/8 inch drill bit and what you want to do is you just want to go

0:01:04.110,0:01:08.040
through each pre-drilled hole and make a mark on the wall. So all we want to do

0:01:08.040,0:01:13.500
here is go through the holes that’s already there in the mounting portion

0:01:13.500,0:01:18.869
and just touch the wall. Make sure that you’re drilling just enough to hit the

0:01:18.869,0:01:23.759
wall so that you can see a hole when we remove the mounting portion. So, this just

0:01:23.759,0:01:27.960
lets us know where we’re going to mount it and that it’s going to be level. Okay

0:01:27.960,0:01:32.400
once you do that take the level down take the piece down and now we want to

0:01:32.400,0:01:37.680
make sure that each hole is going all the way through. Take your drill and your

0:01:37.680,0:01:42.869
1/8 inch drill bit and just pop it all the way through the drywall and just

0:01:42.869,0:01:46.380
take note of whether or not you hit a stud so right here we’re hitting a stud

0:01:46.380,0:01:51.659
which means there’s wood behind the wall and just remember where you hit wood it

0:01:51.659,0:01:55.439
doesn’t matter whether or not you do just remember whether or not you hit the

0:01:55.439,0:02:01.619
wood. So here we’re hitting a stud again. So there will be two holes where we hit

0:02:01.619,0:02:08.910
studs. Just remember where those are. And now we install our drywall anchors. So, we

0:02:08.910,0:02:12.840
install the drywall anchors only in the holes that we didn’t hit wood.

0:02:12.840,0:02:21.360
So, I did it a little bit of the hard way here where I didn’t make the drywall

0:02:21.360,0:02:26.430
holes a little bit bigger which I’ll show you later in the video how to make

0:02:26.430,0:02:30.930
this part easier but it works either way you just take the drywall anchors, set

0:02:30.930,0:02:35.459
them in the hole and you screw them in either with a screwdriver or a power

0:02:35.459,0:02:38.250
drill. A power drill makes it a lot easier and I

0:02:38.250,0:02:42.540
highly recommend using one but if you don’t have one that’s fine you just use

0:02:42.540,0:02:49.170
a big screwdriver. Just be gentle because the drywall anchors are plastic so screw

0:02:49.170,0:02:55.500
them in and just make sure that you don’t screw them into the holes where

0:02:55.500,0:03:01.459
you have studs and that’s all you need to remember for this portion.

0:03:11.050,0:03:14.580
and one more

0:03:17.120,0:03:20.959
again I will I’ll show you a way to make this part a little bit easier later in

0:03:20.959,0:03:28.160
the video but essentially just make the hole a little bit bigger and I just I

0:03:28.160,0:03:32.690
skipped that step in this particular shelf but either way works just fine

0:03:32.690,0:03:35.019
okay

0:03:36.440,0:03:44.299
all of our drywall anchors are in. Now we want to mount the mounting portion of

0:03:44.299,0:03:47.510
the shelf to the wall. So the first thing we’re going to do is we’re going to take

0:03:47.510,0:03:53.360
the included screws and we’re going to start to screw them into each hole so

0:03:53.360,0:04:00.860
what we want to do here is take the long screws that are included and just screw

0:04:00.860,0:04:06.950
them in long enough to where they start to poke out on the other side so all you

0:04:06.950,0:04:12.980
want is for the screw to go through just enough that you can feel the very tip of

0:04:12.980,0:04:20.120
the screw on the other side and do this for each hole so when you’re done you

0:04:20.120,0:04:26.180
should have the mounting portion with a screw in each hole and just the tip of

0:04:26.180,0:04:30.650
each screw is sticking through the other side and that’s all you’ll want to do

0:04:30.650,0:04:37.310
for this part. Again the holes for the mounting portion are already pre-drilled

0:04:37.310,0:04:45.310
so it goes in pretty simple. It goes in pretty easy. Just stick the screw in and

0:04:45.310,0:04:51.550
turn with either a screwdriver or a Drill/Driver.

0:04:57.860,0:05:03.860
And that’s it. Now with the tips of each screw poking through it’ll be really

0:05:03.860,0:05:10.099
easy to find out where the mounting portion sits it’ll it’ll feel like it

0:05:10.099,0:05:12.889
locks into place and there’ll be no question whether or

0:05:12.889,0:05:20.000
not you’re mounting portion is placed correctly. Now you just screw in the

0:05:20.000,0:05:23.600
remainder distance for each screw.

0:05:29.280,0:05:36.420
it’s probably best that you start on one side and then don’t go in a straight

0:05:36.430,0:05:42.420
line that way that you can you can mount

0:05:43.500,0:05:47.680
you can mount the center you can mount these last screws without having to hold

0:05:47.680,0:05:51.460
it up so if you mount each side first and then you do the middle ones that’s

0:05:51.460,0:05:59.080
probably a little bit easier. So get those in and that’s it that’s all you

0:05:59.080,0:06:03.790
have to do there. Should be strong and secure against the wall. Now we just take

0:06:03.790,0:06:08.590
our shelf and slide it on. What you’ll notice, what I’m pointing out there is

0:06:08.590,0:06:14.320
there’s they’ll be a mark in between the two surfaces with a number just make

0:06:14.320,0:06:19.180
sure those line up that makes that way you can be absolutely sure that it’s

0:06:19.180,0:06:23.440
it’s going on correctly you’re not you don’t have it upside down just slide it

0:06:23.440,0:06:30.880
on and that’s basically it. There’s only one more step and that is to install the

0:06:30.880,0:06:39.370
set screw and into the bottom. There is a pre-drilled hole that you can see. You’ll

0:06:39.370,0:06:47.680
take the tiny set screw that’s included and screw it into the shelf, which I will

0:06:47.680,0:06:52.900
show you how to do right now. And again, everything is pre-drilled so it should

0:06:52.900,0:06:56.490
go in relatively easy.

0:07:00.040,0:07:03.840
Just use a regular screwdriver.

0:07:10.930,0:07:14.340
And that’s all you have to do.

0:07:31.490,0:07:36.600
And that’s it. The screw should sit flush. It shouldn’t

0:07:36.600,0:07:42.330
stick out. Now I’m going to show you the the better way to get the drill the

0:07:42.330,0:07:46.410
holes for drywall anchors so the first thing like before you’re gonna do is

0:07:46.410,0:07:50.340
you’re going to go through with your 1/8″ inch drill bit and you’re going

0:07:50.340,0:07:55.110
to pop the holes through the drywall taking note of where you hit studs so

0:07:55.110,0:08:00.330
I’m hitting a stud there. I’m not hitting a stud there. I’m hitting

0:08:00.330,0:08:06.210
a stud there. I’m not hitting a stud there and I’m not

0:08:06.210,0:08:11.430
hitting a stud there so now in the holes that I don’t have studs I’m going to

0:08:11.430,0:08:16.860
take a slightly bigger drill bit, in this case 11/64″. You can go a

0:08:16.860,0:08:21.510
little bit bigger. 11/64″ is what I’m using here just make a little

0:08:21.510,0:08:25.050
hole little bit bigger. Wiggle it around a little bit just to

0:08:25.050,0:08:30.380
make that make the job of getting the drywall anchor in a little bit easier. Just

0:08:30.380,0:08:35.010
be careful not to use too big of a drill bit. 11/64″ is good. You can

0:08:35.010,0:08:41.159
go a little bit bigger. And now I’ll show you how it goes in just a little bit a

0:08:41.159,0:08:44.690
little bit easier so

0:08:48.120,0:08:54.269
Yep, easier that time. You just want to be patient with the drywall anchors. They

0:08:54.269,0:09:00.740
will go in but again they’re plastics so just be gentle with them supposedly they

0:09:00.740,0:09:07.680
don’t even need holes. They’re self-drilling, but it just it’s enormously

0:09:07.780,0:09:16.680
easier if you pre-drill a hole to make them go in smoother.

0:09:16.820,0:09:20.000
That’s it. Enjoy!
